Manali Travel Diary: From Solang Valley to Rohtang Pass

Manali has always been a traveler’s dream—snow-draped mountains, gushing rivers, apple orchards, and a unique blend of adventure and peace. On my recent trip, I decided to capture my journey like a diary, starting from the green meadows of Solang Valley and ending at the snow paradise of Rohtang Pass.

🌿 Day 1: Arrival in Manali

As soon as I reached Manali, the crisp mountain air and the sight of pine trees instantly refreshed me. After checking into a cozy hotel in Old Manali, I strolled through narrow lanes lined with cafés, handicraft shops, and wooden houses. The vibe here was peaceful yet lively—a perfect start to the journey.

🏞️ Day 2: Exploring Solang Valley

Solang Valley, just 14 km away from Manali town, is a hub of adventure. I couldn’t resist trying out a few activities:

  • Paragliding over the vast valley, with snow-capped peaks beneath me.

  • Zorbing and ATV rides, adding a touch of fun.

  • Simply soaking in the breathtaking view of glaciers and meadows.

The valley is not just for thrill-seekers—it’s also perfect for nature lovers. Sitting by the Beas River and watching the sun dip behind the mountains was pure magic.

❄️ Day 3: The Road to Rohtang Pass

The next morning, I set off early for Rohtang Pass, one of the highest passes in the Himalayas at 13,000 ft. The journey itself was a treat—winding roads, waterfalls cascading down cliffs, and stunning Himalayan landscapes at every turn.

Upon reaching, I was greeted with a blanket of snow. It felt like stepping into another world.

At Rohtang Pass, I tried:

  • Skiing and snowboarding (with a little help from local instructors).

  • Sled rides that made me feel like a child again.

  • Enjoying steaming cups of Maggi and chai while watching the clouds play hide-and-seek with the mountains.

✨ Reflections on the Journey

From the vibrant adventure vibes of Solang Valley to the serene, snow-white beauty of Rohtang Pass, this trip felt like two sides of the same coin. Solang gave me adrenaline, while Rohtang gifted me tranquility. Together, they completed the perfect Manali experience.

📌 Travel Tips

  • Best Time to Visit: May to October for lush greenery & adventure sports, December to February for snow activities.

  • Permits for Rohtang Pass: Required and usually arranged online or by local tour operators.

  • Clothing: Always carry warm layers; weather changes quickly in the mountains.

  • Stay: Choose Old Manali for a peaceful vibe, Mall Road for easy access to shops and markets.

💭 Final Thoughts

My Manali travel diary is more than just a journey from Solang Valley to Rohtang Pass—it’s a reminder that sometimes the thrill of adventure and the peace of nature can exist side by side. If you’re planning a trip to Himachal, make sure these two gems are on your itinerary—you’ll return with memories carved in snow and sunshine.
